Staff Reporter : National Board of Revenue-NBR Member Abu Hannan Delwar Hossain has said that NBR is working to introduce business registration and VAT payment systems through faceless communication between tax officials and taxpayers in order to ensure a harassment-free, transparent and accountable tax administration. Various reform initiatives are underway to achieve this goal. NBR aims to transition to software-based business transactions.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organized by the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Sylhet on Wednesday (December 10) at the Grand Sylhet Hotel and Resort marking VAT Day and VAT Week 2025.
The chief guest said that numerous reform activities are being taken to make NBR services more business-friendly. In the future, most VAT-related services will be automated instead of manual. For this purpose, Tax Representative Management System software has been developed to facilitate e-return filing and e-payment.
Highlighting that the primary objective of NBR is to mobilize revenue and finance government development projects, he said that as a country develops, VAT and tax collection also increases. The highest share of revenue comes from VAT. Therefore, in the interest of the country’s overall development, businessmen must voluntarily register and pay VAT. It is the moral responsibility of every businessperson to register their business and pay VAT regularly.
Sylhet Region Tax Commissioner Bhuban Mohan Tripura and Additional Divisional Commissioner Md Ashrafur Rahman were present as special guests at the seminar, which was presided over by the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissioner, Sylhet. Additional Commissioner Mir Abu Abdullah Al-Sadat delivered the welcome speech, while Joint Commissioner Mohammad Salauddin Rizvi presented the keynote address. PID Sylhet
