Saiful Islam Sumon, Juri : Border Guard Bangladesh-BGB, in an operatin by the Biyanibazar Battalion (52 BGB), has seized illegal Indian cumin and cosmetics worth nearly Tk 20 million.
On Wednesday (April 8) evening, a special patrol team of BGB led by Battalion Commander Lt Col. Md. Ataur Rahman Sujan seized the goods from the Dubag area of Biyanibazar upazila in Sylhet, about 4 kilometers inside Bangladesh from the border. The estimated seizure value is Tk 17.5 million.
Efforts are underway to identify the smugglers involved and take legal action against them.
When asked, Lt. Col. Ataur Rahman Sujan said that smuggling of goods is extremely harmful to the national economy. It disrupts the balance of the domestic market, deprives the government of rightful revenue and fuels criminal networks in border areas.
He added that BGB has taken a firm stance to prevent such activities and continues its operations through regular patrols, intelligence activities and checkpoint monitoring. BGB will continue such drives to protect border security and the country’s economic interests.
