Inspector General of Bangladesh Police-IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun BPM (Bar) PPM said that Bangladesh Police is ready in terms of manpower, training and capacity to deal with any situation in addition to fulfilling all assigned duties including law and order control and crime investigation.
He said this while talking to journalists at Police Lines on Saturday, April 29 at noon on the last day of his three-day visit to Sylhet.
The IGP said that the 150-year-old police institution is performing its duties with professionalism. Following Prime Minister’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ directive. So the criminal must be punished. But everything will be done according to the rules through due process.
Earlier everything had to be done by the district police; But now the police force has been divided into different divisions and given responsibilities. Manpower is increasing. Capacity building activities will continue.
In response to a question, the police chief said that action is being taken against those involved in every incident in the Rohingya camp.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed in response to another question that if the Sylhet District and Metropolitan police are lagging behind in any case, special steps will be taken by identifying the areas.
The IGP also said that apart from properly fulfilling all the duties given by the Election Commission, the police will take strict action against those spreading rumours, spreading fake news and propagandizing.
