Staff Reporter : The holy Eid-ul-Adha, glowing with the spirit of sacrifice, is being celebrated on Thursday across Sylhet and the rest of the country with due dignity and religious solemnity.
The main Eid congregation in Sylhet was held at the historic Shahi Eidgah. Ignoring the morning rain, worshippers offered prayers there.
Among those who attended prayers at the Shahi Eidgah were Textile, Jute, Industry and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Moktadir; Minister for Labour and Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury; Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury; Acting President of BNP Sylhet Metropolitan Unit Rezaul Hasan Qayes Lodi; General Secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury; senior BNP leader Badruzzaman Selim; high-ranking government officials and people from all walks of life.
Special prayers were later offered for the welfare of the country and the nation, as well as for world peace.
Eid congregations were also held at various mosques and venues including the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R), Government Alia Madrasa ground, Kudrat Ullah Jame Mosque, Collectorate Jame Mosque, Ambarkhana Jame Mosque, and Ambarkhana Government Colony Jame Mosque.
After offering prayers, Muslims performed animal sacrifices according to their financial ability.
