Two-Day Scientific Seminar Begins at Habiganj Agricultural University

A two-day scientific seminar has begun at Habiganj Agricultural University, where invited and participating researchers will present findings from 20 research studies.
The seminar, organized for the second time, was inaugurated on Thursday (January 22). The inaugural session, held at 10:00 am at the university’s Academic Building-2, was attended by Dr. Abed Chowdhury, Chairman of the Gare Banbase Selection and Monitoring Committee of the Ministry of Education, as the chief guest.
Habiganj Agricultural University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Syed Sayem Uddin Ahmed was also present. Special guests included Professor Dr Khandaker Shariful Islam of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology and Dr Emeli Akhter, Associate Director of the Habiganj Agricultural University Research System.
In his speech, chief guest Dr Abed Chowdhury said that Habiganj is renowned for rice, tea, and agar. He emphasized the need for more research on Habiganj tea and the highly valuable agar, noting that Habiganj Agricultural University could take special initiatives in these research areas.
Teachers, researchers, and officials from various departments related to agriculture, fisheries and livestock attended the seminar.
In the first session of the first day, Dr Mahbuba Jahan, former Head of the Department of Entomology at Bangladesh Agricultural University, presided as session chair, while Dr Jannat Sopan, Assistant Professor of the Department of Crop Production at Habiganj Agricultural University, served as moderator.
In the second session, Dr Mahmudul Islam Nazrul, Chief Scientific Officer of the Moulvibazar Regional Center of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, was the session chair. Dr Md Abubakar Siddique, Assistant Professor of the Department of Plant Sciences at Habiganj Agricultural University, served as the moderator.
Various important research papers in agriculture, environment, animal health and social sciences were presented during the sessions. These studies analyzed biological processes related to crop diseases and insect pests, production systems and soil fertility in sustainable agriculture, crop yield and quality under climate change impacts, environmental pollution control, agricultural disease detection using artificial intelligence, livestock nutrition and reproductive health, the spread of infectious and parasitic diseases, and social challenges such as juvenile delinquency in urban society.
