Sylhet Division Achieves 96.38 Percent Measles-Rubella Vaccination Target

Under the emergency measles-rubella vaccination campaign, Sylhet Division has achieved 96.38 percent of its target.
The information was disclosed at the divisional coordination meeting held on Thursday (May 7) regarding the emergency vaccination campaign.
The meeting, organized by the Divisional Director (Health) Office with support from the World Health Organization, was chaired by acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Mohammad Nure Alam Shamim.
In his speech, he said public fear over measles and rubella—both highly contagious diseases—has gradually begun to subside. Due to the government’s swift and effective measures, vaccines are now available everywhere.
He expressed hope that the situation would come fully under control within the next few days.
He further stated that the target for the emergency measles-rubella vaccination campaign in Sylhet Division was 1,323,966 people. Of them, 1,247,835 people have already been vaccinated, achieving 96.38 percent of the overall target. This progress, he said, was made possible through the tireless efforts of all concerned since the campaign began.
He expressed optimism that the division would achieve 100 percent coverage through collective efforts.
The meeting also informed that, as part of various initiatives taken by the Sylhet Health Department, isolation beds have been prepared proportionately in all upozila and district sadar hospitals. An isolation ward and a 5-bed PICU have been launched at Sylhet Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmad Hospital, while a 10-bed PICU is already operating at Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The emergency measles-rubella vaccination campaign is ongoing and health workers are conducting field-level awareness activities through interpersonal communication.
Special guests at the coordination meeting included Sylhet City Corporation Chief Health Officer Dr Md Zahidul Islam, Sylhet Civil Surgeon Dr Md Nasir Uddin, Additional Police Superintendent Rakhi Rani Das from the Range DIG Office, and WHO Sylhet Divisional Coordinator Dr Sufi Md. Khalid Bin Lutfur. Officials from various government and non-government organizations were also present. PID
