Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet Division Dr Muhammed Mosharraf Hossain said that a special project worth about two and a half crore taka has been taken to bring arable land under fallow cultivation in Sylhet region.
He said this in the president’s speech at the discussion meeting on ‘What to do to bring uncultivated land under cultivation in Sylhet Division’ in the conference room of the Divisional Commissioner’s office on Monday morning.
The meeting was organized by the office of the Divisional Commissioner in collaboration with Sylhet Region Agricultural Development Project through modern technology.

Divisional Commissioner Dr Muhammed Mosharraf Hossain said, Sylhet division has great potential in agricultural production including rice. But the arable fallow land here is about 7.5 lakh hectares. So this special project has been undertaken.
He said that special initiatives will be taken to bring the lands left behind by expatriates under cultivation and the proposal to establish a ‘Land Bank’ will be given to the government to ensure that their land is not encroached upon.
He urged farmers to encourage the production of researched indigenous rice instead of hybrids. Staff Reporter
