To accelerate the process of empowerment of rural and local communities through wide and active participation and access to information in the implementation of Good Governance Practices and Right to Information Act-2009 A social dialogue was held in Mymensingh on ‘Improving the quality of life of the people through good governance practices and implementation of the Right to Information Act 2009’ on Tuesday, 18 July.
Organized by the Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication-BNNRC with the support of the Friedrich Neumann Foundation for Freedom Bangladesh-FNF Bangladesh, the dialogue brought together local government representatives, public and private officials, teachers, lawyers, representatives of civil society organizations, representatives of cultural organizations, NGOs A total of 45 people including representatives and media workers participated.
The dialogue was inaugurated by the Chief Information Commissioner of Bangladesh Information Commission Dr Abdul Malek. He was present as the chief guest at the dialogue.
At the beginning of the program, A H M Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of BNNRC, greeted everyone and discussed the objectives and goals of the dialogue.
Then the country representative of the organization Dr Najmul Hossain presented the perspective and activities of FNF Bangladesh.
At this stage of the dialogue, social activist and researcher Md Shahidul Islam presented the keynote titled ‘Land, Healthcare and other public issues : Current Status, Challenges and Ways of Transition’. In the article Md Shahidul Islam briefly mentioned the history, tradition and geo-regional location of Mymensingh district and highlighted the current status, progress and existing problems and challenges of the services provided by various government departments of the district, especially health services and land management.
Executive Director of ASPADA Environmental Development Foundation, Lion Mohamed Abdur Rashid chaired the program.
In the speech of the chief guest Dr Abdul Malek said, all governance is not good governance. Care should be taken in publishing the news and spreading and disseminating wrong information should be avoided.
He also advised to call 999 to prevent sexual harassment of women in tourist areas and public transport and get immediate solutions.
The Mayor of Mymensingh City Corporation Ikramul Haque Titu was present as a special guest in the dialogue said that freedom of speech and transparency should be ensured. President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Monira Begum Anu said that if the rights of the people are properly received then peace will be ensured.
Md. Farid Ahmed (Joint Secretary) Director of Local Government, Divisional Commissioner office said we are working tirelessly to implement the rights of the people.
Pulak Kanti Chakraborty, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) said that you can get information about the services of various government departments from the Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner’s portal by going to the national information regularly.
