Staff Reporter: The Rapid Action Battalion-RAB arrested three people along with foreign chocolates and liquor in Golapganj Upazila of Sylhet.
Based on secret information, an operational team from RAB-9 Headquarter Company, Sylhet, set up a checkpoint near the Shahporan Bridge toll plaza bypass area at around 1:30 am on Saturday (9 May). When a passenger bus was stopped, a woman attempted to flee, but RAB members detained her.
Later, RAB arrested the woman, identified as Papia Akter (25), wife of Palash Mia of Tiyuri, Kaliganj, Gazipur, after recovering 6,880 pieces of chocolates from her possession. The estimated market value of the seized chocolates is around Tk 200,000.
In addition, during a search of the same passenger bus, RAB arrested two more individuals with two bottles of foreign liquor. They were identified as Md Nahidul Islam Joy (29), son of Md Badsha Alam of Bogra, Bason, Gazipur and Md Arman (26), son of Md Shamim of Pallabi, Dhaka.
For further legal action, cases have been filed against the arrested individuals and they have been handed over to Golapganj Police Station along with the seized items.
