Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet Division Abu Ahmad Siddiqui, NDC, said that since 2006, overall agricultural production in the country has increased almost 4 times. This is because of the easy availability of fertilizers and seeds. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is subsidizing fertilizers, seeds and other agricultural inputs to continue the growth of production, which has never happened before.
He said this in his speech as the chief guest at the farmers meeting and harvesting of 50 acres of Aman paddy in the synchronous cultivation exhibition implemented under the agricultural incentive program in the fiscal year 2023-2024 at Banagaon of Mogalgaon Union of Sadar Upazila in Sylhet on Tuesday, November 21.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Md Jasim Uddin, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Directorate Sylhet, Agriculturist Mohammad Khair Uddin Molla and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nashreen Akhtar were special guests in the rally under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Russell Hasan.
The Chief Guest Divisional Commissioner said that due to the special emphasis of the government on agriculture, the farmers are getting the agricultural officers close at hand whenever there is any problem related to agriculture.
He advised the farmers to make use of these opportunities and convert agriculture into wealth with immense potential.
The Divisional Commissioner requested the Deputy Director of Sylhet Regional Agriculture Extension Directorate to spread advanced agricultural technology in Sylhet region like other regions of Bangladesh including Rajshahi-Jesore.
Later, the Divisional Commissioner inaugurated the program of harvesting paddy and sowing seeds on the land of the local farmers. PID Sylhet
