Staff Reporter : Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar said that the 13th National Parliamentary elections will be held in February before Ramadan.
He also said that no situation has arisen that would prevent the elections from being held at the time announced by the Chief Advisor.
He was answering questions from journalists after the ‘Training on Improving the Efficiency and Capacity of Police to Perform Election Duties Properly’ program at the Sylhet Metropolitan Police Lines Auditorium on Sunday (October 19).
In response to a question, Anwarul Islam Sarkar said that the Election Commission is a constitutional institution. It is accountable to the law. The symbol is determined under the constitution and election rules. There is no scope for allocating it to anyone because the `Shapla’ symbol is not in the list.
He also said that all forces are ready ahead of the elections. Therefore, the law and order situation will not be a challenge.
Regarding the participation of Awami League in the next parliamentary elections, Anwarul Islam Sarkar said that the party’s activities are currently suspended.
The Election Commissioner stressed that there will be no more controversial elections in the country. The Election Commission is taking a strict stance to ensure that controversial officials are not in charge of elections.
He stressed the importance of cooperation from everyone, including the media, in a good election campaign.
