On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, Jalalabad Liver Trust has conducted ‘Hepatitis B’ screening for journalists in Sylhet.
The program was organized in collaboration with Beacon Pharmaceuticals at Lab Aid Sylhet in Madhushahid in the city on Saturday, July 9 from morning to noon.
Neeraj Kumar Jaiswal, Assistant High Commissioner of India to Sylhet was the chief guest at the inauguration of the programme. Chairman of Jalalabad Liver Trust, Head of Interventional Hepatology Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Dr Mamun Al Mahtab Swapnil presided over and presented the keynote address.
Sylhet District Press Club President Hasina Begum Chowdhury, Sylhet District Press Club and Electronic Media Journalists Association-EMJA Founding President Al Azad, Senior Journalist Iqbal Siddiqui and Sylhet District Press Club General Secretary Shah Didar Alam Chowdhury Noble were the special guests.
In the speech of the chief guest, Neeraj Kumar Jaiswal emphasized on making people aware of the dangers of ‘Hepatitis B’ and said that media workers can play a very important role in this regard.
Dr Mamun Al Mahtab Swapnil said that 10 to 12 percent of the patients under treatment in the medicine wards of different medical colleges of the country are suffering from liver disease every year. Most of them are suffering from liver disease caused by `Hepatitis B’ virus. Liver disease is also the cause of one-third of deaths.
He mentioned that Bangladesh is committed to achieving the SDG to eradicate ‘Hepatitis B’ by 2030. Staff reporter
