Staff Reporter : The Zakiganj Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-19) seized various smuggled goods, including Indian tea leaves worth nearly Tk 3.7 million, from different border areas of Sylhet.
Acting on secret information, a special operational patrol team from the BGB-19 Battalion Headquarters conducted a special drive at Singarkhal area in Kanaighat upazila on Saturday (May 16).
During the operation, 1,120 kilograms of Indian tea leaves and one Bangladeshi pickup vehicle were seized in an abandoned condition. The estimated seizure value of the confiscated goods is Tk 1.948 million.
On the same day, separate operational patrol teams from the Suraighat, Uttar Kul, and Jaintapur BOPs of the Zakiganj Battalion carried out drives in border areas of Jaintapur, Kanaighat and Zakiganj upazilas.
They seized 12 Indian buffaloes, 41,000 pieces of biri cigarettes, one auto-rickshaw and one cow found abandoned. The seizure value of these goods is Tk 1.742 million.
According to BGB-19, the total seizure value of all confiscated goods from the operations amounts to Tk 3.69 million.
