Derai Correspondent : The foundation stone of Udayan Adarsha Girls’ High School has been laid in Umednagar village of Rajanagar Union in Derai Upazila of Sunamganj.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Education Shoaib Ahmed Khan laid the foundation stone as the chief guest on Friday (October 10).
Speaking as the chief guest, he said, “I am a son of the haor region. Since there was no primary school in my village, I had to struggle to get primary education. The initiative to establish this school for the development of women’s education in the villages of the haor region will encourage others.”
The additional secretary assured all-round support in the progress of this educational institution.
Later, he planted a sapling.
The event, chaired by retired teacher Aminur Rashid and conducted by student leader Junaid Mia, featured special guests like Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dure Shaoraj, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Avijit Sutradhar, former president of Derai Press Club Shamsul Islam Sardar Khezur, social workers Shahinur Alam, Liton Mia and lecturer Parvez Ahmed.
The school’s landowner Burhan Uddin Ahmed, delivered the welcome speech. Rajanagar Union BNP President Ali Ahmed Khan also spoke, among others.
