The families of two employees of the Sylhet City Corporation-SCC who died while on duty have received financial assistance of Tk 800,000 each, totaling Tk 1.6 million, from the corporation’s own fund.
On Saturday (May 23), SCC Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury handed over the cheques to the wives of the deceased employees.
The recipients were Selina Akter, wife of late Hasan Mahmud Masum, a pump operator in the Water Department and Romana Begum, wife of late Md Abdul Hannan, a driver in the Transport Department.
Speaking on the occasion, SCC Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury said, “The officers and employees of Sylhet City Corporation are the main driving force of SCC. The untimely death of any colleague while in service is extremely painful. No amount of money can compensate for such an irreparable loss to their families. However, SCC remains committed to standing by its employees and their families in times of need and disaster. Protecting the interests and welfare of employees is one of our key responsibilities.”
Urging SCC employees to serve city residents with sincerity, he added, “We are all servants of the city dwellers. Therefore, we must carry out our responsibilities with honesty, dedication and sincerity. The better the quality of civic services, the brighter the image of SCC will become.”
Among others present at the cheque handover ceremony were SCC Employees’ Association President Abdul Basit, General Secretary Akhtar Siddiqui Babul, former Cultural Secretary Md Mofiz Ali, Md Faizur Rahman, and Md Mahbubur Rahman. Press release
