In a discussion meeting organized in Sylhet, the speakers expressed their opinion that although the country of Bangladesh has made great progress in various indicators but violence against children at home and outside has not stopped. A concerted effort must be made to establish their rights so that they can grow up in livable countries.
The development aid organization World Vision Bangladesh organized the discussion meeting titled ‘What to do to prevent child abuse, child rights, child marriage and drug abuse’ in Dargah Gate area of Sylhet city on Thursday, August 24, at noon.
Speakers said that even after the declaration of child marriage free Sylhet, this evil practice has not stopped. Everyone should be vocal against it. Also proper enforcement of laws is essential to prevent drug abuse. Everyone will also work to develop social awareness.
Dr Ruhul Amin Sarkar, technical specialist of World Vision gave welcome speech in the meeting under the chairmanship of Kajol Drang, Senior Manager, World Vision Sylhet Area Coordination Office. Md Mohiuddin, Sylhet divisional director of Islamic Foundation, Shahina Akhtar, Deputy Director of Women Affairs Directorate Sylhet, Abdul Rafiq, Deputy Director of Social Services Directorate, Saidur Rahman Bhuyan, District Child Affairs Officer, Al Azad, former president of Sylhet District Press Club, Rafiqul Islam Shamim, Deputy Director of Youth Development Department and Mohammed Salah Uddin, Deputy Director of District Information Office participated in the discussion as panelists.
Besides, VDC President Dilu Mia, Youth Representative Amirul Haque, Shishu Forum President Fatema Akhter, Maruf Ahmad, Village Development President Alauddin and others participated in the free discussion.
