A delegation from Dubai Taxi Company paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh’s Minister of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ariful Haque Chowdhury and expressed interest in recruiting more workers from Bangladesh.
The meeting took place at the minister’s office on Sunday (17 May).
During the meeting, Ariful Haque Chowdhury thanked the delegation from Dubai and expressed gratitude for recruiting skilled drivers from Bangladesh.
He hoped that this recruitment process would continue in the coming days as well.
He assured the delegation of all kinds of support from the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment throughout the entire process.
The minister also requested the company to arrange salaries and allowances for the workers during their training period after arriving in Dubai.
At the same time, he urged the delegation to recruit not only drivers but also ‘white-collar’ or professional workers from Bangladesh, such as doctors and nurses.
Representatives of Dubai Taxi Company said that around 15,000 workers from 27 countries are currently employed in their company as taxi and limousine drivers, including nearly 8,000 Bangladeshis. Since Bangladeshi workers are highly hardworking, they are given priority in recruitment. They also mentioned that Bangladeshi women are successfully working as drivers at Dubai Airport.
The delegation further stated that from tomorrow, a screening and interview process for qualified Bangladeshi drivers will begin at the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Center. In this phase, they are interested in recruiting 1,500 new drivers, with a total target of hiring 6,000 drivers this year.
Representatives of Al Anas Overseas, the only authorized recruiting agency for sending workers to this UAE-based company, were also present at the meeting.
They said that besides drivers, the company is also interested in hiring workers from Bangladesh as cleaners, technicians, and mechanics.
To achieve this goal, they sought overall cooperation from the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
State Minister Nurul Haque Nur, Secretary Md Muktar Hossain, senior representatives of Dubai Taxi Company and other top ministry officials were also present at the courtesy meeting. PID
