Coordination meeting on health risks due to climate change held in Derai

Derai Correspondent: A coordination meeting organized by BRAC on ‘Efficient planning, implementation and analysis of climate change–related health risks and their prevention’ was held in Derai upazila of Sunamganj.
The meeting took place at 11:00 am on Wednesday (December 17) at the conference room of the Upazila Health Complex, under the initiative of BRAC’s Climate Change and Health Project. Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Shankar Chandra Das attended the meeting as the chief guest.
The coordination meeting was moderated by Abdul Kadir, Project Officer of BRAC Health Program’s Climate Change and Health Project in Derai. Among others, Dr Pintu Sarkar, Medical Officer of the Upazila Health Complex, addressed the meeting.
Speakers highlighted the need to increase public awareness to address health risks caused by climate change, ensure easy access to healthcare services, protect the environment and promote health-friendly habits.
They said the adverse effects of climate change are directly impacting public health. In this context, raising awareness, ensuring accessible healthcare, conserving the environment and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are essential to reduce health risks.
The speakers also noted that in the era of globalization, human-made industries are having a significant impact on the environment. Increasing carbon dioxide emissions in different countries are putting pressure on the environment, leading to pollution and the spread of various diseases. Therefore, they emphasized that the causes of environmental pollution must be identified and avoided.
