Minister for Labour and Employment and Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury has said that he wants to work not as a minister-but as a servant of the people.
Mentioning that he has reached this stage through the cooperation and wholehearted support of the people, the minister sought everyone’s support to carry out his duties with honesty and dedication in the days ahead.
He made these remarks on Thursday (February 19) while responding to questions from journalists after exchanging greetings with officials of various government departments and party leaders and activists at the Sylhet Circuit House.
Expressing gratitude to people from all walks of life in his parliamentary constituency, the minister said, “As the people elected me with a huge vote, the Prime Minister entrusted me as a minister.”
He further said that Sylhet is a migrant-dominated region and the issue of expatriates has been specially highlighted in the party’s election manifesto. Accordingly, short, medium and long-term action plans are being formulated on a priority basis and activities will begin soon in line with those plans.
Replying to a question from journalists about launching the Sylhet–Manchester flight, he said, “A meeting will be held with all ministers and members of parliament from Sylhet to identify long-standing problems of the district, including the launch of the Sylhet–Manchester flight. Effective steps will then be taken collectively to resolve these issues.”
Among others present were Member of Parliament Imran Ahmed Chowdhury, Divisional Commissioner Khan Md Reza-un-Nabi, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury and Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam, along with leaders of Sylhet district and city BNP and its affiliated organisations.
Earlier, when the minister arrived at Osmani International Airport, officials from various government departments and party leaders and activists welcomed him with floral greetings. Press Note/PID, Sylhet.
