Staff Reporter: Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, President of the district BNP, has been appointed as the new administrator of Sylhet City Corporation-SCC.
The information was disclosed in a notification issued by the Ministry of Local Government on Sunday (February 22).
After the July mass uprising, SCC Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury and the councillors were dismissed. Since then, the Divisional Commissioner had been serving as the administrator of Sylhet City Corporation, while several government officials were performing the duties of councillors.
Alongside his role as district BNP president, Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury successfully served as the coordinator for six parliamentary constituencies in Sylhet during the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
He also demonstrated competence while serving as the personal assistant to former Finance and Planning Minister M. Saifur Rahman.
