The three-day Agricultural Entrepreneurs Fair 2026, organized by the Department of Agricultural Marketing, has begun in Sylhet.
The fair was inaugurated on Thursday (June 4) at the Mohammad Ali Gymnasium of Sylhet District Stadium by Divisional Commissioner Md Mashiur Rahman.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, presided over by Julia Yasmin Mili, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Marketing, the Divisional Commissioner said, “This fair is closely connected to our lives. We cannot survive without agriculture. Food is our primary necessity and it is supplied through the agricultural sector by our farmers.”
Addressing aspiring entrepreneurs, he said that those who wish to become successful entrepreneurs should begin their work with proper planning. Success cannot be achieved without a plan. Therefore, individuals must move toward the right goals and develop themselves into successful entrepreneurs.
After the inauguration, the Divisional Commissioner visited all the stalls at the fair.
In her presidential speech, Deputy Director Julia Yasmin Mili said that the Department of Agricultural Marketing serves as a bridge between farmers and consumers. Through this connection, farmers are able to deliver their products to consumers in the market. The department provides training to farmers on how to add value to their products so that they can receive fair prices.
She added that the department works tirelessly to ensure that agricultural products are marketed as safe food for consumers. It also facilitates the transportation and marketing of farmers’ products while ensuring various benefits and support services for them. The prices of agricultural products are published on the department’s website, enabling farmers to determine appropriate selling prices for their produce.
She further stated that the Department of Agricultural Marketing places the highest importance on farmers. As a result of this support, individuals involved in agricultural products can grow from being farmers to becoming agricultural entrepreneurs. The Agricultural Entrepreneurs Fair has been organized to recognize and promote such individuals.
Special guests at the event included Humayra Jahan Rupu, Joint Director of Bangladesh Bank’s Sylhet Office; Dr Md Mosharraf Hossain, Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension in Sylhet; Mohammad Faizur Rahman Shahir, Chief Regional Manager of Bangladesh Krishi Bank and Sohel Hawlader, General Manager of BSCIC.
Officials from various government and private organizations, along with entrepreneurs, were also present at the event. PID Sylhet
