Commerce, Textiles, Jute and Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir MP said, “Our city remains so beautiful because sanitation workers work day and night to keep it clean. We respect their work. The Honorable Prime Minister is also very sincere toward them.”
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a ceremony for distributing the Prime Minister’s special grants among sanitation workers of Sylhet City Corporation at the city corporation building on Sunday (24 May).
Presided over by Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury, the minister further said, “Just as you have been successfully maintaining cleanliness in the city regularly, you must also ensure the quick removal of waste during the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha and restore the city to its normal condition as quickly as possible.”
He also assured that a project would be undertaken to construct new quarters to address the housing crisis faced by sanitation workers.
In his presidential speech, SCC Administrator Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury said, “The Honorable Prime Minister is very sincere about the development of Sylhet. He has sent this special grant for the sanitation workers, which has increased the responsibilities of the workers even more. Through collective efforts, we will build a modern city.”
The welcome speech was delivered by SCC Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rezae Rafin Sarkar. Greetings were delivered by Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam.
The event, conducted by SCC Chief Waste Management Officer Lt Col (Retd) Mohammad Eklim Abdin, was also attended by SCC Secretary Md Ashiq Noor, Chief Engineer Md Ali Akbar, Chief Revenue Officer Bishwajit Dev, and other senior officials.
At the event, a total of Tk 5.79 million in special grants was distributed, including Tk 4.135 million provided by the Prime Minister and Tk 1.655 million from SCC’s own fund.
Under the initiative, each of the 1,158 sanitation workers of SCC received Tk 5,000 in cash. Press Release
