A coordination meeting with local stakeholders was held in Sylhet to strengthen awareness and promotional activities regarding the ‘Village Court Activities’ program.
The meeting took place on Wednesday (13 May) at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. The chief guest was the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet, Md Sarwar Alam.
In his speech, he said that the Village Court is an effective initiative of the government. Minor family and local disputes can be resolved easily through the Village Court system.
He added that if disputes and cases are settled locally through Village Courts instead of being referred to higher courts, the backlog of cases in the judiciary would be reduced significantly.
He further stated that extensive publicity campaigns must be carried out to make Village Courts more popular at the local level.
He urged all concerned to widely promote the legal benefits and advantages of Village Courts among the general public.
Special guest at the meeting was Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Saida Parveen. Other invited guests included Divisional Forest Officer Mohammad Abdur Rahman, Additional Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Tamanna Nahar, Assistant Information Officer of the District Information Office Afsana Akhtar, Youth Development Officer Md Aminuzzaman and Biswajit Krishna Chakraborty.
