SCC to Repair Inactive Vehicles || More than Tk 140 Million to be Saved

An initiative has been taken by the Sylhet City Corporation-SCC to repair and bring back into operation 20 vehicles that have long been out of order and lying idle in garages. This is expected to save approximately Tk 140 million.
On Monday morning (March 16), the repair work was officially inaugurated at the SCC transport division in Topkhana of the city by SCC Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury. At the same time, a newly constructed modern shed was also inaugurated there.
On the occasion, he said that unnecessary expenditures must be reduced and emphasis should be given to cost-effective management in line with the Prime Minister’s directives. Efforts are underway to reduce costs in all departments of SCC, but there will be no compromise when it comes to quality.
The administrator further stated that SCC engineers will supervise the repair work under their own supervision. The quality, warranty and proper use of each component must be ensured. No negligence or irregularities in this work will be tolerated.
Regarding the construction of the new shed, he said that in the past, mechanics had to repair vehicles while being exposed to rain during the monsoon and heat from the sun. From now on, they will be able to work comfortably, safely and quickly inside the shed. This will protect their health and improve both the speed and quality of work.
SCC Executive Engineer (Mechanical), Lt Col (Retd) Mohammad Ullah Sajib said that purchasing new vehicles would have cost around Tk 150–160 million. However, by repairing the old inactive vehicles, it will be possible to make 20 vehicles operational again at a cost of only Tk 13.5 million. This is expected to save more than Tk 140 million.
Among those present at the inauguration were SCC Chief Health Officer Dr Zahidul Islam, Executive Engineer (Mechanical) Lt Col (Retd) Mohammad Ullah Sajib, Assistant Engineers Tanvir Ahmed Tamim, Jaberul Islam, Shafayet Ahmed Soikat and Sub-Assistant Engineer Rajan Mohan Dutta, along with other concerned officials.
