Dialogue on Women’s Professional and Personal Life Challenges Held in Sylhet

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, a dialogue session with leading women was organized by Reliant Women Development Organization-RWDO, Sylhet under the theme ‘Today’s Steps, Tomorrow’s Justice: Ensuring the Rights of Women and Girls.’
The session was held on Thursday (March 12) at Saroda Smriti Bhaban, where various challenges faced by women in their professional and personal lives were discussed.
The event was presided over by RWDO Executive Director Samita Begum Meera. The chief guest was Shahina Akter, Deputy Director of the Sylhet District Department of Women Affairs. Special guests included Advocate Shirin Akter, President of Shujan-Sylhet (Citizens for Good Governance); Samia Chowdhury, Vice President of the Central Mohila Dal; Dipali Gwala, Member of Tukerbazar Union Parishad; Shakila Bobby, General Secretary of the Sylhet Women’s Journalist Club and Tasnia Farin, Executive Member of the Hijra Youth Welfare Organization.
Speakers discussed women’s opportunities, challenges, and achievements in government jobs; the challenges faced by female advocates; women’s participation and decision-making in Union Parishads as elected representatives; the challenges and successes of women in journalism; women’s participation in politics; and the various obstacles faced by the hijra community in sustaining their place in society.
The guests also shared experiences of challenges and successes from their personal lives.
The session was moderated by Nafisa Tanzin, a volunteer of RWDO’s Swadhin Project. A welcome speech was delivered by Project Focal Person Md Zahidul Islam Rashid. The event was supported by Manusher Jonno Foundation-MJF and implemented with overall support from Plan International Bangladesh, funded by the European Union.
At the end of the session, prizes were distributed among the winners of a drawing competition organized in observance of International Women’s Day. Press Release
