Staff Reporter: Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, President of the district BNP, has assumed office as the newly appointed Administrator (with mayoral responsibilities) of Sylhet City Corporation-SCC.
He formally took charge at the Nagar Bhaban at 1:30 pm on Wednesday (February 25).
The outgoing Administrator and Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet, Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, handed over the charge. SCC Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rezai Rafin Sarkar, Secretary Bishwajit Deb, other officials and distinguished persons were present on the occasion.
After assuming office, Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury said he wants to build a beautiful and clean city with everyone’s participation. Ensuring services for city residents will be his main goal.
He added, “With the cooperation of Honorable Minister of Industries, Commerce, Textiles and Jute Khandaker Abdul Muktadir and Honorable Minister of Labour and Manpower, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury, I will ensure the highest level of service and development for city dwellers.”
Earlier, Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury arrived at Sylhet Osmani International Airport from Dhaka at 11:30 am. He then visited the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R).
After the visits, SCC officials welcomed him with flowers upon his arrival at the Nagar Bhaban.
At 2:30 pm, Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury held an exchange of views with Sylhet City Corporation officials.
