The Assistant High Commissioner of the Indian Assistant High Commission in Sylhet, Aniruddha Das has said that Bangladesh–India relations stand on the foundation of mutual respect and dignity. The people of both countries will be the key stakeholders in building a stable, positive, constructive, long-term and mutually beneficial relationship.
He made these remarks on Wednesday afternoon (February 18) during a courtesy meeting and exchange of views held at the Sylhet District Press Club.
Aniruddha Das further said, “We should transform our geographical and cultural proximity, growing economic capacity and future aspirations into new opportunities through mutual cooperation. Through objective reporting and constructive criticism, journalists can further strengthen and consolidate this relationship.”
The Assistant High Commissioner also assured maximum cooperation in visa issuance to further enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the discussion, attending journalists highlighted the prospects and challenges of expanding trade and commerce, education and cultural exchange and communication links between Sylhet and India’s northeastern region. They also called for projects to support the socio-economic development of Sylhet under the Government of India’s Aid to Bangladesh and LOC (Line of Credit) initiatives.
Paying tribute to the martyrs of Bangladesh’s Great Liberation War, all speakers emphasized making bilateral relations more effective to further reinforce the historic bond between the two countries.
The meeting was chaired by Sylhet District Press Club President Moin Uddin and moderated by General Secretary Mohammad Nasir Uddin. At the beginning of the session, Senior Vice-President and Daily New Age Staff Correspondent Moniruzzaman Monir delivered the welcome speech.
