Staff Reporter : State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury expressed his commitment to fulfilling the expectations of the entire nation under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Acknowledging his prior focus on Sylhet, including Bishwanath-Osmaninagar, he emphasized his new responsibility to the whole country.
He expressed confidence that with the support of the people and party leaders, Bangabandhu’s daughter would successfully shoulder this responsibility.
He made these remarks on Monday evening in Sylhet, on the eve of paying his respects at the central Shaheed Minar. This was his first visit to the district since assuming his new role. He outlined his priorities, stating that identifying the challenges faced by expatriates is his immediate task. These issues will then be addressed systematically, prioritizing the most pressing ones. He confirmed that the Prime Minister has entrusted him with spearheading initiatives for the welfare of expatriates.
Addressing another question, the State Minister emphasized the importance of sending skilled manpower abroad based on the specific needs of each receiving country. This approach, he believes, will prevent Bangladeshis from encountering difficulties overseas and contribute to an overall increase in remittance inflows.
State MInister expressed his optimistic vision for Bangladesh, stating that the country is transitioning from Digital Bangladesh to Smart Bangladesh. He stressed the need for everyone and everything to become smarter to achieve this ambitious goal.
His visit to Sylhet included paying respects at the central Shaheed Minar in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Russel Hasan. He was also joined by prominent figures such as Sylhet City Awami League President Bir Muktijodha Masuk Uddin Ahmad, District General Secretary and Zilla Parishad Chairman Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan, City General Secretary Professor Md Zakir Hossain, UK Awami League Vice President Hormuz Ali and Joint General Secretary, Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury and former Central Organizing Secretary of AL Advocate Misbah Uddin Siraj along with a large number of party activists.
The State Minister later visited the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shahparan (R).
