On the occasion of the National Mourning Day, Sylhet district and City Awami League leaders along with the newly elected Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury paid their respects at the tomb of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara.
SCC Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury took a special initiative to pay this tribute.
When the leaders reached Tungipara on Friday, August 25 around 12 noon, they were welcomed by the caretakers of Bangabandhu’s shrine and local Awami League leaders. They then laid wreaths at the tomb of the Father of the Nation.
Later, the leaders prayed for the forgiveness of the souls of all the martyrs of August 15, including Father of the Nation and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Necha Mujib and for the welfare of the country and the nation.
They prayed for the health and longevity of the Prime Minister, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, the other daughter of the Father of the Nation.
The leaders offered the holy Friday prayers at the mosque of the tomb complex.
Awami League Sylhet City President FF Masuk Uddin Ahmad, District President Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, District General Secretary, Zilla Parishad Chairman Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan, City General Secretary Professor Zakir Hossain and Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury were present during the tribute.
Other leaders of district and city Awami League executive committee and upazila and ward Awami League presidents and general secretaries were also present. Press Release
