All arable fallow land in Sylhet district will be brought under cultivation plan in the next 5 years.
This was planned in the district agriculture development core committee meeting in the conference room of the district commissioner’s office on Tuesday morning.
Deputy Commissioner Md Mozibor Rahman presided over it. Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department, Executive Engineer of LGED and representative of BADC Irrigation-Fertilizer-Seed Scheme and Water Development Board were present in the meeting.
Besides, the upazila executive officers were connected to the Zoom platform.
It was informed in the meeting that about 65 thousand hectares of cultivable land fall in Sylhet district during Boro season. Discussions were held on how to bring this vast land under cultivation. In view of this, a unanimous decision was taken that a total of 13,000 hectares of arable fallow land will be brought under the cultivation scope of 1,000 hectares in each upazila in the next Boro season. In this way, a plan was adopted to bring all the arable fallow land under cultivation in 5 years.
In order to achieve the target, the Upazila Executive Officers were asked to hold a meeting of the Upazila Agriculture Development Core Committee and the Upazila Irrigation Committee and send the list of dignable canals. Besides, BADC (Irrigation), Water Development Board and LGED are asked to take measures to ensure irrigation required for crop production with instructions to BADC for timely supply of fertilizers and seeds to the farmers for cultivation in fallow lands.
