Sylhet District Council Chairman and District Awami League General Secretary Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan said that Sylhet District Press Club is leading the region as a pro-liberation organization. All progressive political, social and cultural organizations have close relations with this organization. Sylhet Zila Parishad will give full cooperation to advance this relationship and development of District Press Club.
He said this while addressing the chief guest at the opening session of the bi-annual general meeting of Sylhet District Press Club on Saturday morning.
Sylhet District Press Club President Al Azad presided over the inaugural session held at the organization’s auditorium. Vice President (First) Moin Uddin gave welcome address under the direction of General Secretary Samir Mahmud.
Chief guest Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan said that the journalists of Sylhet have been making important contributions to the welfare of the country and the state through their writings. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government has undertaken extensive activities for the welfare of journalists. The Journalist Welfare Trust formed under the instructions of the Prime Minister is providing financial support to the journalists. Cooperation is also being done in other ways.
After that, the second session of the general meeting started at noon. In this episode, under the presidentship of District Press Club President Al Azad. Coducted by Associate General Secretary Syed Russell, General Secretary’s report was presented by Samir Mahmud. Treasurer’s report was presented by Misbah Uddin Ahmed. Discussed on the two reports and presented future plans in the form of proposals, members Salam Mashroor, Liaquat Shah Faridi, Mukit Rahmani, Apurba Sharma, Shah Didar Alam Noble, Moniruzzaman Monir, Shabbir Ahmad Faiz, Sayed Chowdhury Tipu, Debashish Debu, Md Abdul Qayyum, A H Arif, Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, M A Malek, Md Ali Akbar Chowdhury Kohinoor, Ajmal Khan, Md Abdul Ahad, Md Farid Uddin Ahmad (Salman Farid) and Nabeen Sohail etc. Member Atiqur Rahman Nagri recited from the Holy Quran. Sports and Culture Secretary Shankar Das recited the Gita.
