A half-day hartal was observed on Wednesday in protest against Lafarge Holcim’s ‘illegal production and open market sale of crushing limestone’.
Chattak Traders Sramik Oikya Parishad called this strike. At the same time, day long waterway blockade has also been observed.
The strike began at 6 am on Wednesday, October 26. Ends at 2 pm. However, picketing in support of the strike was seen at various intersections since morning. Besides, attempts were made to block the road by throwing bamboo at various points.
Meanwhile, the police were very active. At some places, roadblocks also prevented. At this time, the police clashed with the strike supporters. Along with all types of vehicles in the city, inter-district buses are also closed. As a result, common people have to face difficulties.
Chatak Traders Sramik Oikya Parishad convener Ahmad Shakhawat Salim Chowdhury said that the agitation against Lafarge Holcim will continue until the illegal production and sale of crushed limestone in the open market is stopped.
