19 BGB seizes Indian cumin and other goods worth Tk 1.5 crore

Staff Reporter : The Zakiganj Battalion (19 BGB) of Border Guard Bangladesh has seized a consignment of Indian cumin worth Tk 1.5 crore along with other illegal goods in Kanaighat and Jaintapur upazilas of Sylhet.
Acting on secret information, on Thursday (November 20) at around 9:30 am, a special patrol team from Suraighat BOP of 19 BGB conducted a raid in Kanaighat Upazila, approximately 5 km inside Bangladesh from the border, near the Kanaighat Rural Electricity Association.
During the operation, the patrol team signaled a suspicious truck loaded with rice husks to stop. When the truck ignored the signal and attempted to flee, the patrol team chased it and apprehended it at around 10 am, though no owner was found with the vehicle.
Upon searching the truck, the team recovered 5,365 kg of Indian cumin seeds hidden under the rice husks using a special technique.
The combined value of the cumin seeds and the truck is Tk 1 crore 3 lakh 65 thousand.
Additionally, the previous day, separate patrol teams from Suraighat, Jaintapur and Lalakhal BOPs conducted raids in border areas of Jaintapur and Kanaighat and seized : 3,060 kg of Indian onions, 120 kg of cumin, 2 cows, 2 engine-run wooden boats and 2 pickups without owners
The total estimated value of these seized items is Tk 39,37,200.
According to 19 BGB, the total value of goods seized in the combined operations amounts to Tk 1 crore 43 lakh 2 thousand 200.
