Staff Reporter : More than half a million leaders and activists of the BNP family from Sylhet participated in the public reception organized in Dhaka on the occasion of the long-awaited return of Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
According to the media cell of Sylhet District BNP, leaders and activists joined the reception with a large procession at the public gathering held on the July 36 Expressway (300-feet road) area in Dhaka on Thursday (December 25). Among those present were BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, General Secretary Advocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury, Sylhet City BNP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Kayes Lodi and General Secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury.
Tarique Rahman returned home after nearly a decade and a half. He departed London in the morning and arrived in the capital via Sylhet.
From Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to the 300-feet road in Dhaka, the entire route turned into a sea of people as party leaders, activists, and supporters gathered to welcome him. His wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman and daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman, also returned home on the same flight.
In addition to BNP leaders and activists, leaders of various other political parties were present at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and the public reception venue to welcome Tarique Rahman.
After returning home, Tarique Rahman met his mother-in-law and later visited his mother, who is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
