The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology-SUST, Professor Dr Md. Khairul Islam, paid a courtesy call on Sylhet City Corporation-SCC Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury.
The meeting was held at Nagar Bhaban on Monday (8 June) afternoon, where the two sides exchanged views on various issues related to university affairs and urban development.
During the meeting, SCC Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury welcomed the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor and inquired about the university’s educational, research and infrastructure development activities.
Professor Dr Md Khairul Islam briefed the administrator on the university’s ongoing development plans, research activities and various initiatives aimed at expanding modern facilities for students. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation from local authorities in enhancing the quality of education and research.
Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury said that Shahjalal University of Science and Technology is one of the country’s leading higher education institutions. Its progress is important not only for the Sylhet region but for the entire country. He expressed the City Corporation’s willingness to provide full support to sustain the university’s advancement in education, research and innovation.
He further stated that building Sylhet into a modern, clean and well-planned city requires coordinated efforts with educational institutions. The knowledge and expertise of university teachers, students and researchers can play a significant role in urban development planning.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed optimism about strengthening mutual cooperation in education, research, environmental conservation and urban development.
It is noteworthy that SCC Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury also serves as a syndicate member of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. Press Release
